CARERS SUPPORT

The Carers Support Group

Are you a caregiver, husband, wife, or partner of someone affected by cancer?

We  have established a Carers Support Group to deliver culturally appropriate resources and a supportive community for carers to provide:

  • Connection with Other Carers: Carers will have the opportunity to connect with other carers in a supportive setting, allowing for shared experiences and mutual support.
  • Access to Information and Resources:  To support caregivers in their role.
  • Wellbeing Activities and Resources: The group will provide access to activities and resources for promoting wellbeing, which is crucial for maintaining mental and physical health.
  • Training for Online Services: Carers can receive training to access online services using their phone or computer. This can empower them to find and utilise resources independently.
  • Other Support and Information: Where resources are available, we will provide other kinds of support and information based on caregivers' needs and requests.

Our support group will provide access to valuable resources and a supportive environment for carers.

Why do we support carers?

At The Rose Thompson Foundation, the needs and experiences of carers are fundamental to our work as well as our origin story.

Before becoming one of the country's leading cancer information specialists, our late founder Dr. Rose Thompson was also a cancer carer. While in the middle of her studies at radiotherapy school, Rose’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and sadly passed away at the age of 47, when Rose was 19 years old. It is because of these experiences as a carer for her mother that Rose developed her lifelong passion for enhancing cancer services and information for global majority and low-income communities.

Through Rose’s story, as well as our years of working with diverse communities affected by cancer, The Rose Thompson Foundation recognises the importance of supporting carers in their own journeys -  not only as a vital support for so many patients - but as individuals with their own support, wellbeing and cultural needs.
